I actually liked this better than "Kamakura" and definitely better than "Final Summit". "Kamakura" had color and interest but the characterization of Fujisawa that Fairbairn is able to draw sets this one above it. I started out unabashedly rooting for Go Seigen but before long I found myself having a great deal of sympathy for Fujisawa as well. Fairbairn paints him as a manly but also very fun, almost cavalier spirit. There is further something tragic to him as in some ways he brought about his own defeat
