The Moonstone - Wilkie Collins, J.I.M. Stewart The best thing about this book was the character Gabriel Betteredge. He had a copy of "Robinson Crusoe" that he treated like a Bible, in that he would read it over and over, particularly when he was troubled, and he often felt that the book predicted things. Collins actually used specific passages from the book. It seemed to me an amusing commentary on the way many people use the Bible, and at the same time made me want to read "Robinson Crusoe".
